OpenStudy (phi):
do you know the sin(pi/6) ? or sin(30 degrees) ?
OpenStudy (yacoub1993):
sin(30) is 1/2
OpenStudy (phi):
I think they want you to use the idea that
sin(-x) = - sin(x)
in this case, if you know sin(30 deg) you can find the sin(-30 deg)
OpenStudy (phi):
in other words, sin(-30)= - sin(30)
OpenStudy (yacoub1993):
-1/2

OpenStudy (phi):
yes
OpenStudy (yacoub1993):
but when i use the calculator i get 9.138395397x10^-3 for sin(pi/6)
OpenStudy (phi):
that is because pi/6 is understood to be in radians
either put your calculator in "radian mode"
or leave your calculator in "degree mode" and change pi/6 radians to degrees
you change from radians to degrees by multiplying by 180/pi
OpenStudy (yacoub1993):
my calculator is in degree mode
OpenStudy (phi):
yes. so you have to give it angles in degrees
