Converting expressions

Miracrown (miracrown):

I think I see what is going on, so let's start with Christine. Can you see what happens in the first step? @Lena772

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i think christine sees everything as multiplication lol. she doesnt know exponents/additions/subtractions. she is just multiplying everything together :o

Miracrown (miracrown):

lol yes, I think that step is correct. This is the rule for applying power to a power when you have two powers, the rule is to multiply the power together. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (lena772):

Yes

Miracrown (miracrown):

So that first step is correct, so then in the next step, it looks like they are taking the radical and turning it into an exponent. Do you know what power the cube root becomes?

OpenStudy (lena772):

Everyone's first step is correct, or are you referring to Christine?

Miracrown (miracrown):

lol, I'm referring to Christine.

Miracrown (miracrown):

So it looks like she was changing the cube root into a power, what is the exponent form for the cube root? Do you know>

Miracrown (miracrown):

|dw:1384419892493:dw| if you're confused the the cube root is the power 1/3 similar to the square root power 1/2 so here is the first mistake for Christine she uses the power 3 instead of the power 1/3
