divide every term by 3 gives \[x^2 = -4x - 5\] for my preferred method I'd add 4x to both sides of the equation to get \[x^2 + 4x = -5\] then complete the square then solve... you you can use the general quadratic formula after adding 5 to both sides of the equation... different methods, but you'll get the same solutions.
