: Imagine that a generous relative has agreed to give you $3 for every $2 you save. Use a part whole model to calculate how much of the savings goal will be yours to raise and how much you can expect the relative to contribute.
Could any one help me?
Out of every $5 in total savings, your contribution is $2 and the relative's contribution is $3. 2/5 is your contribution 3/5 is relative's contribution So if your total savings is $S, the relative's contribution will be 3/5 * S
Do i have to come up with how much i want to save?
It depends on what the teacher or other similar examples in the book is expecting. If the total savings is S, then the relative's contribution is 3/5 * S is the general equation. If they wanted an example, you can choose S = 1000, plug it into the equation and find the relative's contribution.
okay so if i had to save $310 than how would i find the answer?
Plug S = 310 and find the relative's contribution.
okay so 3/5 * 310?
yes. compute 3/5 * 310 = ?
so 186?
Yes.
Yay thank you so much!
