how do you write a linear equation
there are two (or three) ways to write a linear equation slope intercept form: y = mx + b point-slope form: y - y1 = m(x - x1) and standard form: ax + by = c
would you like explanations and examples?
yes
slope intercept form: y = mx + b when m = slope and b = y-intercept so for example when given slope = -4 and y-intercept is (0, 3) the equation in slope intercept form would be y = -4x + 3
we've already gone over the point-slope form so standard form: ax + by = c is when you bring the x and y values to one side once you have an equation of a line so for example, to get y = -4x + 3 to standard form, add 4x to both sides so 4x + y = 3 but know that there can only be integer coefficients in standard form so for example if you were given a y - 2 = (1/2)(x - 2) y = (1/2)x - 1 + 2 (-1/2)x + y = 1 to get so that there is no fraction multiply through by reciprical -x + 2y = 2
