Isolate x and solve for x: Add -2x to both sides of the equation. Add 3 to both sides of the equation. Divide both sides by 8 to find your x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you have to add?

OpenStudy (ranga):

We are trying to isolate x to one side. In 10x-3 = 2x+4 there is x on both sides. I want to get rid of the 2x on the right side. So subtract 2x from both sides. (same as saying add -2x to both sides).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that you have to subtract 2x from 2x. But from what number do you subtract 2x from on the left side?

OpenStudy (ranga):

From 10x. You can only subtract "like terms". 10x and 2x are like terms.

Is the answer B?

OpenStudy (ranga):

yes.

Can you please help me with another one?

OpenStudy (ranga):

one more.
