Need Matrices Help

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this for alegbra 1?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Algebra 2 actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at connexus?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

nope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some online school?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is possible. answer is not C

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

How? it doesn't have the same number of columns and rows though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

size convention: #rows x #columns C = 3 x 2 A = 2 x 3 CA = [3 x 2] [2 x 3] in line above, we can all the 2's beside each other the inner dimensions and the 3's the outer dimension. For multiplication to be possible, the inner dimension must be the same [this is the case] The dimensions of the product will be the outer dimensions. so in this case the answer is a 3x3 matrix. assume we had B = 1 x 8 D = 8 x 3 BD = 1 x 3 matrix DB = impossible because inner dimensions would be 1 and 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we can call *

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Ohhhh Thank you so let me see

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

With multiplying would you take the first row from C to the first column of A

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

would it be A?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what i like to do is to place A column above C 0 -2 ----- -3 1 5 -2 0 1 then i multiply down and add across 0 -2 ----- 0 -2 0 +4 0 -2 this will be the first column of the product: -2,4,-2

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

where did you get 4 from?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i did show my work ....

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

o_o its just that thats not one of the options for the answer

OpenStudy (amistre64):

look for a column of -2,4,-2 not a row

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

sorry I am an idiot *facepalm*

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i have a way i like to organize the information. if i dont do it this way i tend to misplace values and make a huge mess of it :)

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Haha, Thank you. I need tr find a way to organize it to be neater :p

OpenStudy (amistre64):

my teachers were always trying to take values and place them into formulas ... i would tend to take the right value and place it in the wrong spot is all |dw:1384792392650:dw|
