What if we didn't make mistakes essay?
So I have to write an essay based on this passage from the "Medusa and the snail" by Lewis Thomas. I'm having trouble thinking of my three reasons to defend Thomas's claims. Any ideas? This is what I have so far. "Penicillin, X-rays, potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, microwave ovens, fireworks, and so many more are all examples of inventions that were created by mistake. These “mistakes” changed the world forever. If a mistake hadn't occurred, these inventions wouldn't exist today. In fact, without mistakes we would never be able to move forward, grow, and burgeon on. I agree with Lewis Thomas's claims because.."
@robtobey @undeadknight26 @DAshingNii Can you guys help me out with this?
If we didn't make mistakes we would never learn. Simple :D
Thanks Bookworm, that's one reason but I need three. Does anyone have two more?
Sure, I'm sure ash might have some too. :D
Awesome :-)
You can state example of yourself that you made many mistakes in life while the immediate results were bad but you learned a lot from them and have grown in ways you would have never thought. Maybe this one time you made a mistake in school in front of other students and you felt bad and shameful but then you were motivated strongly to learn and work hard to never make that mistake again. And now you realize that you have become perfect in that thing maybe it could be Public speaking or mathematics.
You could give example of Thomas Alva Edison as well, while trying to devise the Electric Bulb he made a hell lot of mistakes. But never diverged from his path and kept trying with alacrity learning from each mistake and finally invented the Electric Bulb which may seem a simple thing today nevertheless was a great invention of its time.
@Savannah_Noelle What do you say?
Thanks Ash those are all good examples but I'm stuck on my 3 reasons for my thesis statement. Bookworm gave one, which is if we don't make mistakes we'll never learn. I'll definitely use your examples though! :-)
ummm *thinking*
Mistakes make us realize that something (object or person) has another viewpoint or aspect to it(or them) which we were overlooking earlier. Maybe while trying to invent something we were not giving a factor or nuance much consideration and when our invention fails because of the mistake, we realize that we were not looking at it all along.
WOW!!! That's a really good one Ash! I'm definitely going to use it! Thank you soooo much!!!
thanks, I'm glad that you liked it.
