What combines to form compounds? A. atoms of elements B. molecules C. minerals D. valences

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's either A or D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whatever sorry........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arguably, A, B, and C are all logical answers. Chemical reactions can involve both pure elements and molecules. Minerals are simply complex molecular compounds, so they fall under this category. Valences, however, are unrelated- they're the electron configurations of atoms. If you have to pick just one answer, I would say it's A. All chemical reactions involve atoms.

Omg r u serious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D was the right answer I found it online

You could say that the valences electrons of atoms merge to form compounds, since covalent compounds do share their electrons. This isn't quite the case for ionic compounds, though. I seriously doubt D is correct- if it is, then it's a rather poorly worded question.
