What is one problem with using the potential energy in fossil fuels?

OpenStudy (bibby):

It's non renewable. There are some other issues with greenhouse gases and ozone depletion/climate change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorreh, but bruh, I no understand :(

OpenStudy (bibby):

no probs bruh. I'm not sure what the angle behind the question is. There is only so much crude oil to be mined from the earth at affordable costs because only so many stuff died and became oil

OpenStudy (austinl):

Fossil fuels, as bibby stated, are non-renewable. There is a finite supply that when expended, is gone, forever. Wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy, these are all renewable, and therefore sustainable over time. Further than that, I am unsure how to answer your question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fossil fuels are easy and relatively cheap to use. However, burning them releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is one of the main suspects of climate change as well as a cause of ocean acidification. They also produce toxic compounds that can lead to pollution and acid rain. As the others have said, they're also finite. Fossil fuels took millions of years to form, so they won't be re-growing any time soon. That's what makes them non-renewable.
