Hypercube: definition The hypercube is defined on wiki as 'an n-dimensional analogue of a square (n = 2) and a cube (n = 3)' Although wiki isn't the most reliable of sources, particularly for maths, I don't understand what it means by the term 'analogue'. I have never used it in this context. Can anyone explain?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

An "analogue" is a sort of "analogy."

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

a comparison between one thing and another, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification

oh okay, so with the hypercube, it's comparing the four dimensional shape embedded in a 3d one? or is it 3 in 2d?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

it's comparing the four dimensional shape embedded in a 3d one

Directrix (directrix):

Analogue: Switch is to light as trigger is to pistol In this case, think of a square as a 2-d cross section of a cube in 3-d. The cube is a 3-d cross section of a hypercube in 4-d.

right okay, that makes sense!!! thankyou guys!! :)

Thanks for asking :)
