Here's the question In American movies, there are two ultimate rules: 1. Asteroid and aliens only attack the U.S. and 2. The main character never dies. Right now, there is an asteroid falling toward Washington D.C. straight down from the sky at 1500m/sec rate. At this rate, the asteroid will hit the ground of the city after 10 seconds. Meanwhile, Superman is attempting to save the capital by flying toward the asteroid from the left. He flies starting from the base floor of the newspaper company he works at, 3km from the asteroid’s landing point, at 500m/s. He wants to catch the asteroid right before it crashes to the ground for maximum safety. The city has ordered a mass evacuation to clear the way for Superman’s flight, although in American films, heroes always deal more damage to the subject of protection than the enemies. In this situation, first calculate the change in distance between superman and the asteroid. Also, will the asteroid manage to hit the city ground first and destroy the American capital, thus changing the trend of American films, or will Superman be able to save the city and continue to same trend? Don’t worry. Even if the asteroid hits, the main character’s not gonna die.
