The initial height, it seems to me, is the y-intercept. So, evaluate y = -16x^2 + 62x + 4 for x = 0. Note: the y-intercept has x-coordinate 0. @najaas

The time in which the object hits the ground will be one of the x-intercepts. An x-intercept has y-coordinate 0. Take y = -16x^2 + 62x + 4 and let y = 0. 0 = -16x^2 + 62x + 4 Use the Quadratic Formula. One of the two resulting values of x will make sense within the context of the problem.
