WILL GIVE MEDAL!! Does mitosis more closely resemble meiosis I or meiosis II? Explain your answer.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

its meiosis 2 because in this separation of sister chromatids occur which is very similar to mitosis..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK U!!! Can you help me with some more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2. What is crossing over? When does it occur during meiosis? Why did you have difficulty modeling this element of meiosis using your “chromosomes?”

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.what is the major difference between the separation of chromosomes between anaphase I and anaphase II?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4. What is independent assortment? When does it occur during meiosis? How did you model this element of meiosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5. Which part of meiosis, meiosis I or meiosis II, is responsible for reducing the chromosome number by half in the cell?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just need help with those ones

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

woaah woaah wait....lets start with meiosis then...what all do u know about meiosis...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just know that its the process by which eukaryotic organisms produce egg and sperm having half the genetic information of the other cells in the organism’s body

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

okay so i think u should take a look at this... http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072495855/student_view0/chapter28/animation__how_meiosis_works.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i watched it

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

COOL....u understood stuff? now can u try to give the ans? i will correct if u go wrong..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, for 2. crossing over happens in the prophase I. and its when 2 homologous chromosomes exchange Dna between abject homologous chromtdes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then they are no longer identical

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

correct:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, for 3 i have no clue/:

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

in anaphase 1 homologous chromosomes separate while in 2 sister chromatids separate..:D

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

also independent assortment is sort of shuffling of chromosomes...i am not very sure how to quote this though..:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok, and for number 5, is it telophase I?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in meiosis i?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

u r right...but not just telophase..the entire meiosis 1 is responsible for that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok, Thank u so much!!
