what do you do when you add rational expressions?
like ½ + ¼ = 1/x
I don't want the answer, I just want to know what to do. The answer has to be 1/something. I figured out how to get that, you would cross multiply and then simplify but I don't know if that is really the way to solve something like this.

Hi @KateNicole! Do you know this?
Hi @chasertyy! Do you think you could help?
Guys, I do give medals if that is what you are worried about. I just need this one thing
@timo86m @triston69 @Darrius @SolomonZelman can any of you please heed? Before any of you ask why you were tagged, I tagged you because I need this help and nobody is coming to the rescue
Please???
I am becoming frustrated. I really need help and all anybody is doing is coming to my question watching for 5inutes and then leaving
½ + ¼ = 1/x if we multiply the ½ by 2/2 we get 2/4 and the problem is \[ \frac{2}{4} + \frac{1}{4} = \frac{2+1}{4} = \frac{3}{4} \] I am not sure why you want \[ \frac{3}{4} = \frac{1}{x} \] but if you do, we solve for x. the easiest way is "flip" both sides \[ \frac{4}{3} = x \] in other words: \[ \frac{1}{2}+ \frac{1}{4}= \frac{1}{\frac{4}{3}} \]
Oh okay! Thank you so much!! I was so confused lol Thanks again!

Oh wow! That helped a lot! Thanks! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. This is the first time I have gotten on in a week and a half.
