If you crumple a piece of paper, would its weight change?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

Its density would change, but "[i]ts mass or weight shouldn't change. Its mass doesn't change because you don't change the amount of paper that is there, it's the same amount just more compact. The weight doesn't change either since its mass doesn't change and weight is directly proportional to its mass. [The] only thing that will change is the upward force from the wind or air it experiences as it falls from a certain height. If you have a sheet of paper and you drop it with the flat side parallel to the floor, it falls slowly, but if you crumble it up there is a smaller surface area on it which allows it to fall faster" Source: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110225222338AA5uhne

OpenStudy (rane):

no the mass would not change, u r just changing the shape of the object

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the mass does not change, except for your fingerprints, and the volume does not change (merely its shape), then the density, mass per volume, does not change either.
