inverse of 5x/x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

switch places with your y and x and solve for y, make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it seems so simple but every time i try it i get something really ugly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=\frac{ 5x }{ x+2 }\to x=\frac{ 5y }{ y+2 }\] now solve for y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i did and i got to the point where i get x(y+2)=5y but then im not sure what to do once im there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lonnie?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute the x. \[xy+2x=5y \ then finish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[xy+2x=5y \to xy-5y=-2x \to y(x-5)=-2x\] the last step is simple.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2x/x-5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sir.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks again
