OpenStudy (brinazarski):

Converting regular coordinates to polar coordinates?

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

(6, −6)

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

I got 6sqrt(2) for r

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

But I can't solve for theta

hartnn (hartnn):

thats correct

hartnn (hartnn):

theta = tan inverse (y/x)

hartnn (hartnn):

tan inverse (-6/6) = ...?

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

-45pi/180?

hartnn (hartnn):

which angle gives tan theta as -1?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, in radians, its -pi/4 in degrees -45

hartnn (hartnn):

if you need a positive angle, just add 180 degrees (or pi radians) to it, because tan function is periodic in pi

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

none of those are working :( i tried -pi/4 and 3pi/4

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

it wants it in radians

hartnn (hartnn):

-pi/4 should work

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

0 ≤ θ ≤ 2π

hartnn (hartnn):

ohh, then 3pi/4 should work

hartnn (hartnn):

wait, try 7pi/4

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

That works!

OpenStudy (brinazarski):

Thank you so much!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
