How would I find the slope intercept form for this problem. The line has an x-intercept of -5 and a y-intercept of -8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We know, based on the information, that we have 2 points. (-5,0) and (0,8) We already know that in slope intercept form b is known, which is -8. So far we have \[y=mx-8\] Now, to get the slope we must use the slope formula, or: \[\frac{ y _{2}-y _{1} }{ x _{2}-x _{1} }\] Plug in the 2 points into this equation. \[\frac{ -8-0 }{ 0+5 }\] Now we simplify this to get: -1.6=m Therefore: \[y=-1.6x-8\]
