f^-1(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it just says find f^-1(x). This stuff confuses me

OpenStudy (jonnyvonny):

Is there a graph, or table?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says f(x)=3x. i didn't see it before, but i still don't get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(f^-1(x))=f^-1(f(x))=x to find the inverse of a function f(x), replace f(x) with x and x with f^-1(x) so f(x)=3x becomes x=3f^-1(x), thus f^-1(x)=x/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so my answer is just x/3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup :)

OpenStudy (jonnyvonny):

Also, I believe that you may simply take the inverse of it; any x value would be put in the denominator, which, in turn, you see the pattern of the new graph would be 1/3x.
