So i was solving the practice question on Pauls Notes of definition of a derivative. The question was; Find using the definition of a derivative i) f(x) = 6 I saw the solution but it didnt make sense to me. Can someone please solve this and explain the solution to me?
do you have a link ?
Yeah sure here it is: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Problems/CalcI/DefnOfDerivative.aspx its question 1
what don't you understand?
The fact that there isnt an h in the numerator. See, by defination f'(x) = f(x+h) - f(x)/h But in the solution, we dont have an h in the numerator to cancel out. Why is that?
I am not sure whether I can make it clear for you or not, just try. h in numerator is a very small value of f because it's f (x + h) not just h. I mean |dw:1386017742840:dw|
