Factor out a perfect square for 99

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[b=\sqrt{99}\]

hero (hero):

Are you familiar with the list of perfect squares?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 4 6 etc. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 6 i mean 9

hero (hero):

The set of perfect squares are {1, 4, 9, 16...} Of those, choose the one that is most appropriate to factor out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the list of perfect squares I just struggle with factoring them out

hero (hero):

We know \(99 = 9 \times 11\) right? And we know that \(9\) and \(11\) are factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the factors both had to be perfect squares

hero (hero):

Notice it says to factor out "a" perfect square. "a" means "one" so therefore we need at least "one" of the factors to be a square. It didn't say all the factors of 99 had to be a square.

@Hero thank you
