Pre-Algebra help!! Solving Inequalities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/3a is less than equal to 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and can you please explain how you get the answer cause im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/3a <= 2 -- divide both sides by 2/3 a <= 2/(2/3) a <= 2 * 3/2 a <= 6/2 = 3 or, if you do not want to mess with fractions.. 2/3a <= 2 (multiply the entire inequality by the LCD, which is 3) 2a <= 6 (divide by 2) a <= 3

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Do you have options to chose from, if so, lol i believe it could be a < = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the answer I got too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help me with one more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem...do you have any questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5a is less than equal to -15

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

I'd explain the process but @kelliegirl33 explained very clearly xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i love the way you explained the first one helped me out a lot!! Now i know how to do fractions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5a <= -15 (divide both sides by -5...but REMEMBER this rule...when dividing/multiplying by a negative, the sign changes) a >= -15/-5 a >= 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it greater than equal to 3? cause thats what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes..it is >= 3

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

Fractions are a bit different from inequalities.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) thx @kelliegirl33 *becomes fan*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my computer wont let me become a fan at the moment :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats ok....you can fan me later, if you want to :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x + 6(x-10) > 20 can you help with this one? why are there 2 variables?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there may be 2 variables, but they are the same variable... 4x + 6(x - 10) > 20 -- distribute through the parenthesis 4x + 6x - 60 > 20 -- add 60 to both sides 4x + 6x > 20 + 60 -- combine like terms 10x > 80 -- divide both sides by 10 x > 80/10 x > 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay now I understand!! You should be a mod or ambi!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not want the responsibility of that job...I am happy just answering questions :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have any more that you need help with ?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

^ Nice werk xD lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll mention you if I need any more help on my homework

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kelliegirl33 The face of a tent is shaped like a triangle with an area of 21ft2. The area of the triangle is represented by the formula A equals one half b times h. The height of the tent is 6 feet. How wide is the base of the tent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can solve it I just need help writing the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A = 1/2bh A = 21 h = 6 now we sub A = 1/2bh 21 = 1/2(b)(6) 21 = 3b -- now divide by 3 21/3 = b 7 = b check... A = 1/2bh 21 = 1/2(7)(6) 21 = 1/2(42) 21 = 42/2 21 = 21 (correct) b = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thanks but all I wanted was the formula the solve for the base!! But thanks for the help!! <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anytime :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kelliegirl33 did I do this right? 3z+6(z+1)<-3 z=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help with 3 more equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3z + 6(z + 1) <, except do not put =-3 -- distribute through the parenthesis 3z + 6z + 6 < -3 (subtract 6) 3z + 6z < -3 - 6 (combine like terms) 9z < -9 z < -1 you are correct, except do not put =, put < ....good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4z-z+2>5 6(z+1)<12 -5z+8<10-3z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4z - z + 2 > 5 4z - z > 5 - 2 3z > 3 z > 1 6(z + 1) < 12 6z + 6 < 12 6z < 12 - 6 6z < 6 z < 1 -5z + 8 < 10 - 3z -5z + 3z < 10 - 8 -2z < 2 (dividing by a negative, change the sign) z > -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx @kelliegirl33

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kelliegirl33 what is a literal equation?
