alebra help im stuck posting problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algebra 1 or 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im studying for placement test I have -2/-2 but idk where to go form here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What exactly equals -2/-2? \[? = \frac{ y2-y1 }{ x2-x1 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I used y2-y1/x2-x1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when you use that formula what do you solve for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk I just remember the formula and I got as far as -2/-2 and idk what to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ECE ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210 you know this bud?:)

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Ofc I do, okay first thing is find the slope: \[\LARGE m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\] Then use the point-slope formula: \[\LARGE y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhhhhhhhhhhh ok so I did the m part I got -2/-2 is that correct?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

That's right, simplify it now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/-1?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

which is..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhmmmmmmm 1?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Exactly, now plug that into the next formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay one sec and I will

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what do I plug it into ? y or x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2=-3?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

No, you plug it into m, the x and y's are for coordinates

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so I plug 1 into there and then what?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Pick one of the coordinates points, choose one any one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and plug it into every x and y spot?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Like this: We have the slope 1, and we'll use the point (-2, -1) So we plug it in and get: y+1=1(x+2) Now just distribute and simplify

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

If you did it right, you should get answer choice B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I got y+1=1x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then I get x=1x+1 ?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

*y=x+1, yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok @Luigi0210 I remember this problem on test that was .ike 3(7x+y)=6 or something like that but all the asnwers where like fractions you have any idea what kind of problem that was ? I need help on it bc I couldn't figure it out

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Hmm, fractions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok its to hard to ecplain but ok when I have something like this 2(1/2x+3)=0 and I have to make each side zero had do I go about doing that with a fraction in there just put whatever x is over 1 and multiply them?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Do you remember how to multiply fractions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes just straight across right

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yup, so when you multiply a whole number with a fraction, like 2*(1/2), it would look like this: \[\LARGE \frac{2}{1}*\frac{1}{2}\] Because 2 is the same as 2/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok that's what I thought ok one more question @Luigi0210 there was one wehre it said find the table the corresponds with the equation how would I do that?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Just plug in the x values, and match them up with the y values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool thanks

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Anytime bro ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)
