Ordered pairs for x-3y=-4

OpenStudy (jonnyvonny):

Is there more to this? If you want to get a function that you can work with, get y alone. First, you would have to subtract "x" then divide by "-3y".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all you have to do is substitute values in for x or y. for example, when x = 0: -3y = -4 and y = 4/3 thus an ordered pair would be (0, 4/3)

The whole question reads: Complete each ordered pair so that it is a solution of the given linear equation. X-3y=-4; ( ,5) (-7, )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, the notation for ordered pairs is (x,y) for the first one, you have no x value but you do have a y value. use that value and plug it in for y and solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have that one but I can't figure out how to get the y in the second pair

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second one looks like (-7,y). you have x, use that value and replace it with x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm trying to figure out how to do that
