Last question of the night , please someone help mee !
Splott solved it like this: 2x + 4 = –3x + 14 2x + 4 + 3x = –3x + 14 + 3x 5x + 4 = 14 5x + 4 + 4 = 14 + 4 5x = 18 5 x divided by 5 is equal to 18 divided by 5 x = 18 over 5
Fizzle solved it like this: 2x + 4 = –3x + 14 2x + 4 – 2x = –3x + 14 – 2x 4 = 14 – 5x 4 – 14 = 14 – 5x – 14 –12 = –5x –12 + 5 = –5x + 5 –7 = x
x + 4 = –3x + 14 2x + 4 + 3x = –3x + 14 + 3x CORRECT 5x + 4 = 14 CORRECT 5x + 4 + 4 = 14 + 4 WRONG, he should have subtracted 4 both sides 5x = 18 5 x divided by 5 is equal to 18 divided by 5 x = 18 over 5
2x + 4 = –3x + 14 2x + 4 – 2x = –3x + 14 – 2x CORRECT 4 = 14 – 5x CORRECT 4 – 14 = 14 – 5x – 14 CORRECT –12 = –5x WRONG, 4-14 = 10 –12 + 5 = –5x + 5 WEONG, he should gave divided -5 both sides –7 = x
@Gregk which question are you reading :/
oops i someone had a similar question
Oh my .. lol
Both functions are quadratics, of degree 2. I've seen this question before, and it makes no more sense now than it did last time.
I understand not one part of this question or how to even begin to answer it ..
I have a maths degree and I don't understand it either. I don't know what "operation" it's even referring to, and both functions have the same degree.
Where is this question from?
My school .... lol
Connections Academy
@agent0smith
i think the "operation" refers to leg and arm movement and heat generated thereof
Hmm , i think i got it .. I'll see what i can do . Thanks though !
what have you got? because i studied maths at uni and i reckon this a very ambiguous question
This is an awful question. It's hard to tell whether the degree refers to heat, or polynomial degree. In either case, both are essentially the same answer.
I agree. It's a stupid question to start with. Needs more info in order to obtain some sort of a sensible solution
