Based upon the message of this cartoonist, is this cartoonist in favor or opposed to U.S. imperialism? Explain how you arrived at this conclusion. (2 points)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. uncle sam 2. the ma represents the expansion of the united states 3.the message is about how the u.s has grown (elaborate on that)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. Uncle Sam 2. The United States 3. The message is that the US has always expanded and grown and will probably continue to grow with time. That anti-expansionists seem to forget that the US has always expanded and without expanding in the past the anti-expansionists probably wouldn't be around to oppose the imperialism. 4. Gaining more land (obviously) and intimidating other countries. 5. In favor of imperialism - See number 3.

Text Reads: “Declaration of Dependence. We bought the Filipinos for $20,000.00. Therefore, we hold these lies to be self-evident that all brown men are created unequal; that they are endowed, by their buyers with certain unalienable wrongs that among these are death, captivity, and pursuit. That to secure these wrongs, governments are instituted among Filipinos deriving their just powers from the consent of the undersigned. Old Daddy Washington is a has-been. Me, Mac, and Teddy.” Caption Reads: “Fun for the Boys.”

1. Which document is being revised by the men in this cartoon? (1 point) 2. What event is this cartoon being drawn in response to? (1 point) 3. Who are the men who are shown editing the document and how would you describe their emotions? (3 points) 4. In the cartoon, who is the shadow/ghost watching this happen and how would you describe his emotion? (1 point) 5. Is the cartoonist for or against the U.S. acquiring the Philippines? Explain how you arrived at this conclusion. (2 points) 6. When considering both political cartoon #1 and political cartoon #2, what does this tell you about American imperialism following the Spanish-American War? (1 point)

OpenStudy (xmoses1):

1. Delcaration of Independence 4. I think that is Washington lol

OpenStudy (xmoses1):

Other than that I am not really sure :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. Declaration of Independence 2. Acquiring the Philippines 3. Whoever 'Me' is, Mac, and Teddy - I assume Teddy is Teddy Roosevelt. Sorry, not sure about 'Me' or Mac. 4. George Washington; he appears to be disappointed or upset. 5. I'd say against since it is calling it against the Declaration of Independence as they are making fun of the Declaration. 6. That there were clearly people who were against the imperialism, but that didn't change the fact that imperialism is what the US was built on and that the US would continue to be imperialistic.
