How did MANIA (militarism, alliances, nationalism, imperialism, and assassination) all contribute to World War I?

Essentially they all caused World War 1
What were the strengths and weaknesses of the German Schlieffen Plan?
Ultimately the Schlieffen Plan failed not because of flaws with the plan but because of the way it was carried out; 1. The German High Command miscalcuated the speed at which Russia could mobilize. 2. German troops did not invade the Netherlands as Count von Schlieffen had intended; as a result roads in Belgium became too clogged with German troops and equipment and vital Channel and North Sea ports were not seized. 3. The German army swung round too early and failed to encircle Paris. In doing so they were unable to attack the French army on the German-French frontier which Count von Schieffen had relied upon crushing the French army. It is important to note that while the Schlieffen Plan was not perfect it was tactically sound. What really ended its usefulness was the fact that
Some of its strengths were the fact that they would use a scythe motion of attack to then put them on the flanks of the French thus insuring their victory and avoiding the more heavily defended front lines then they would swing back into the heart of France (Paris) where the attacking forces would meet up as for who would win the battle of Paris that was questionable. The lever would swing them around the city of Metz. this surrounding tactic would insure Frances defeat in weeks.
How would the reaction to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand have been different if no international alliances had existed in Europe?
Three extreme Serb nationalists who were members of a group called the Black Hand, a terrorist organization, were planning to assassinate him. As the Archduke and his wife drove from the train station to a meeting, the first assassin threw a hand grenade which missed the Archduke but caused 20 civilian injuries. On his way back from the meeting another member of the group shot both the Archduke and his wife. The Austrians quickly found out that a Serb nationalist group was responsible for the assassination. This gave the Austrians the excuse they needed to crush Serbia. Source: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_the_assassination_of_Archduke_Franz_Ferdinand_lead_to_World_War_I#slide21
World War 1 would have most likely started anyway no matter what because germany and Austria wanted to expand their empires.
