is it possible for a linear function to have a y-intercept

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

A linear function is just a line. Do lines cross through the y axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Most do. Vertical lines (other than the y axis itself) don't.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Diego: Try graphing a couple of linear functions and observe whether or not they cross the y-axis: y = 2x - 1, y = x, 2y = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a vertical line is not a function, so it is always the case that a linear function crosses the \(y\) axis
