I need to know how would you calculate a dimension? Does anyone know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a somewhat broad question, if you're talking about simply calculating the spacial dimension of an object, eg. a line, a triangle, or a cube. Then you would simply count the number of spacial dimensions required to construct that object. A line requires only one dimension 'length', whereas a triangle requires two 'length' and 'width'. A cube requires three 'length', 'width', and 'height' (or 'depth').

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

is there more to the question Chooch146?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No i just need to know how i would calculate a carton.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

do you know anything about the carton?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its an orange juice carton

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

are you able to obtain the measurements for it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like the inches?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

like the height, length, width, etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The height is 9 in, the length is 4 in and the width is 4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and you want to calculate the volume?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the volume is equal to the result when you multiply the length, width and height V = L*W*H V = 9*4*4 V = 144 So the volume is 144 cubic inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh i see what about the dimensions? or s it the same thing?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the dimensions are the length, width, height

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

they uniquely define this carton

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

all you need to know are the dimensions and you can calculate the volume or surface area you can use these dimensions to construct other cartons that are identical to this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh wow i feel dumb...im terrible with calculations and math.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's ok, don't feel bad, it's a silly mistake

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so if i need to find the volume of a carton i just need to multiply the height, width, and length?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep, exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you so much!!!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
