OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really never understood this question can someone help me please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the pic of it

OpenStudy (disco619):

I don't really understand it myself. My thought towards it is that this is Easier than it looks...

OpenStudy (disco619):

Let me give you what I think...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7th grade math

OpenStudy (disco619):

Then it should be easy...

OpenStudy (disco619):

So... Profit on 1 candy bar: $1.25 Number of Candy Bars: c We have to write the Equation which tells us how much profit we would get on a certain amount of candy bars. So tell me. If we have 2 candy bars, how much profit we will get on it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$2.50

OpenStudy (disco619):

And how did you find it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cause if 1 is $1.25 2 has to be $2.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$1.25+$1.25=$2.50

OpenStudy (disco619):

And tell me how much profit we would get on 50 candies?

OpenStudy (disco619):

What is the easiest way to find Profit on 50 candies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$62.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50*$1.25

OpenStudy (disco619):

EXACTLY! We would Multiply 1.25 with 50 (which is number of candies)

OpenStudy (disco619):

And we need to make the equation which tells us the number of profit on "c" number of candies.

OpenStudy (disco619):

So what would the equation be?

OpenStudy (disco619):

If you didn't understand then tell...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c=50 50*$1.25=$62.50

OpenStudy (disco619):

And now if we make an equation in which whatever number we replace with "c", we would find the Profit of that amount of candies.

OpenStudy (disco619):

Profit on "c" number of candies = 1.25 x ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so c=50 then $1.25*50=$62.50

OpenStudy (disco619):

50 was a mere example. Now forget the 50... What would we multiply by 1.25 to find the Profit on "c" number of candies?

OpenStudy (disco619):

We are not "solving" something here, just "making" an equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c=50 so then $1.25*50

OpenStudy (disco619):

Nonono. C is not equal to 50.... I gave "50" as an example. Now we have to make an equation with only "1.25" and "c"

OpenStudy (disco619):

If you don't understand tell me, i'll simply tell you the answer and how I did it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (disco619):

So, you agree to this: c = number of candies right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (disco619):

And you agree that: 1 candy has profit = $1.25 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (disco619):

Then, If we multiply profit on 1 candy with number of candies this will give us the equation. \[Profit= 1.25 \times c\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$1.25c

OpenStudy (disco619):

|dw:1386488962439:dw|

OpenStudy (disco619):

Exactly.... Profit on Number of Candy Bars Sold = 1.25c

OpenStudy (disco619):

Do you get how I made this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really but i remember it from my teacher

OpenStudy (disco619):

Ok, let's test it out. Tell me any Number of Candies sold.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17

OpenStudy (disco619):

Profit on 17 Candy bars = 1.25c Now solve this... Can you?

OpenStudy (disco619):

Solve by showing steps...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17 candy bars divided by $1.25 =$13.06 so then c is $13.06*$1.25=17squared2=17*17=289

OpenStudy (disco619):

See, you didn't understand the Question. It is VERY Simple. What you did is wrong. What you had to do was use the equation: 1.25*c And "c" was the Number of Candy Bars, and the Number of Candy bars were 17 So we simply had to do this: 1.25*17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (disco619):

Do you know what is "substitution"

OpenStudy (disco619):

If you didn't understand STILL! I can get you another person to tell you...

OpenStudy (disco619):

So?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitution no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in basketball yes

OpenStudy (disco619):

It's when you replace a value with a alphabet in Algebra.... In this case "c" is the Alphabet, and whatever value (number) we replace with it we would find the Profit on "c" number of Candy Bars.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yea then yes i do know what it means

OpenStudy (disco619):

Kind of like Basketball, like we replace a Player. So, the number of Candy Bars is "c" and by multiplying "c" with 1.25 we would get the Profit on "c" number of candy bars. And in the example of "17" candy bars. We would Substitute 17 with "c" and then solve the Equation. The number of Candy Bars is "17" and by multiplying "17" with 1.25 we would get the Profit on "17" number of candy bars. GET IT?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so c=17 right?

OpenStudy (disco619):

Yes, in the Given example. But the "ACTUAL" Question doesn't require the value of "c". It only wants the equation. Which would be: 1.25*c So if we Substitute any number (number of candy bars) with "c" in the Equation, we would find the profit on that number of Candy Bars! Get It?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 17*$1.25 right i am guessing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can we please hurry my parents are getting mad cause i am not sleeping

OpenStudy (disco619):

Cause you also have to see what the Actual Question demands which is: Q] For every candy bar you sell for the swim team you earn $1.25 in profit towards the cost of your trip. If c=the number of candy bars you sold, write an equation that you could use to determine the profit. And see, the Question ask's for the "Equation" which is: Equation that could determine the profit = 1.25*c [Answer]

OpenStudy (disco619):

I see you are getting late. If you still didn't understand how to do it, ask your Math teacher. And she would clear it to you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry but i have to go mabey next time

OpenStudy (disco619):

Cause I see you are new to this topic and understanding it completely is really important for Maths in future.

OpenStudy (disco619):

DO ASK THE MATHS TEACHER!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you for all of your help

OpenStudy (disco619):

Anytime.... DO ASK THE MATHS TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help i can't figure it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will get the pic again for anyone to look

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

@Disco619 already gave you the answer... Profit = 1.25c

OpenStudy (disco619):

LET'S MAKE IT SIMPLE. First you should know that you have to find an "Equation", not the Value of "c"... And to find profit on "c" candies, you will multiply profit on 1 candy with that "c" number of candies. Which means, Profit on "c" number of candies = 1.25*c THAT IS THE ANSWER (EQUATION)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (disco619):

If you understand COMPLETELY, let me know!

OpenStudy (disco619):

Do you Understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you
