Why is it important to evaluate scientific conclusions?

OpenStudy (confusionist):

So many peopel think that science is set in stone and always based on strict evidence. It's not, however. Many scientists disagree and there can be huge arguments over claims happening right under our noses. We don't know about it, however, because we are not qualified and we choose to ignore what we don't know in most cases. Also, these types of things can be hidden by the scientists to avoid sparking other scientists attention and having more people argue with their claim. Many years ago a drug was released. The federal tests were administered, however the company signed a contract signifying that the tests that failed could not be released or the person would go to jail. Later, one researcher who administered a test broke the contract and spoke up, hereby saving all the people he saw on the verge of death from the drug. The jury voted in his favor. My point is, if we do not argue with some specific cases (especially in medical science), theories can be considered fact. This causes extreme distress and false claims within everyday products and causes (in extreme circumstances) over the counter drugs not to be 'poison' underneath it all.
