Read this sentence and answer the questions below: I ran at a fast pace when the trail was flat, but when it started climbing uphill and getting rocky, I had to compensate by going much slower. Which phrase gives the most helpful clue to the meaning of Ran at a fast pace Trail was flat When it started Going much slower
@SolomonZelman
The meaning of all individual phrases?
Oh sorry I think its the meaning of compensate
compensate? the definition is to like make up for something, like you can say that your thinking skills compensate for a lack of skills in sports Look at your example and tell me what you think.
Going much slower?
@SolomonZelman
Well, I am not sure of what is the question going on what is the compensation or what is being compensated Ran at a fast pace - what he gives up after trail became flat. Trail was flat - the cause to slow down When it started - just indicates that it was not like this- (flat trail) before at all Going much slower - the way he loses out because of a flat trail, is losing speed. He had to slow down to be able to climb anyhow. In other words he is giving up the speed for the movement. Makes sense?
So Going much slower is right? @SolomonZelman
IDK, I don't get the question, what is it EXACTLY going on?
I would say when it started because if it had never started going uphill or getting rocky the runner would never have needed to "compensate"
I stink at English, but I really don't think that the most helpful clue is that.
I would say B is the best explanation for why he had to compensate- to give up the speed.
I think it is " going much slower ". Not 100% sure.
