Which is an equation of a circle with center (-10,6) and radius 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is a pic!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you know how to find the distance between 2 points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No I don't. @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm, i was hoping you did since that is pretty basic knowledge obtained from simpler works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly I don't understand it. I get easily confused.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we knew how to find the distance between 2 points; then all we would need to do is find the distance between (-10,6) and (x,y) that equals 8

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Wouldn't this be more quicker? \[(x-h)^{2}+(y-k)^{2}=r^{2}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that would be quicker, but just filling in a formula tends to obscure the reason why the formula works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't even understand that formula.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you know the pythagorean thrm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait it's the first one correct? Yes I do know it Asquared + Bsquared = Csquared

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Now I remember were you're coming from @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, if we set up a right triangle such that: |dw:1386715406748:dw| we can determine the equation of a circle using the pythag thrm
