Help with a how-to essay? I have a start and a few notes from my teacher..... I would appreciate any help... :) Thank you!

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

This is what I need to include:

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

1. Title: The title, usually in larger or darker print, tells the purpose of the instruction sheet. 2. Subtitles: The subtitles are usually capitalized and list the different parts of the instructions. 3. Numbered steps: The steps of the process are numbered to guide the reader in following the proper order. 4. Explanation of how: Exact information on how to do a specific thing enables the reader to successfully complete tasks never before attempted. 5. Explanation of why: The reader is told why he is doing a particular action to aid his understanding and thus provide for better results. 6. Use of examples: The use of examples help to clarify the how's and why's of the process being described. 7. Use of contrast, or antithesis: This device helps make directions clear by creating a mental picture of something that is unlike something else. 8. Use of comparison, or analogy: This device also gives a mental picture so that an instruction is more readily understood. For example, the directions may say, "The clearance should be 1/32" (half the width of a penny)." You may not know how wide 1/32 of an inch is, but you can imagine the thickness of a penny.

This is what I have so far and the note from my teacher:

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

How to Decorate a Christmas Tree It’s that time of year again. All the decoration boxes that have been in storage get pulled out and the tree gets put up, but how are you going to make your tree look like the ones on the covers of all the holiday magazines? Here are a few tips to get your tree decked out and Christmas ready. 1.) Make sure you have your choice of lights, ornaments, and tinsel if desired and, of course, no Christmas tree would be complete without a star or an angel on top. 2.) Take lights, plug into nearest outlet and start from the bottom working in a spiral pattern, wrapping lights around the tree. If there is any extra light string, you can tuck them in the back of the tree, where no one will see them. 3.) Take your ornaments and evenly place them spread out on the tree. This part may be a bit tricky to get placing and spacing the way you want it, but keep trying and rearrange until you are satisfied with it. For some added charm, you can add small bows or ribbon on the tree, as well. 4.) If you have decided to add tinsel to your tree, sprinkle the tinsel over desired areas of the tree and now add the topper. Your star or angel should tie the whole tree together. This should complete your tree and make your home practically beg for Christmas morning. 12/7/13: This is better, but I do not see the use of a subhead, the use of contrast, or the use of comparison. Please try again. Thanks. Blessings, Mr. Melton ___________________________________ 12/4/13: This is an excellent start, but I can already tell that you are missing at least two of the eight points (#2, #3) found in the directions. Please correct and make sure that you have included all eight steps. Thanks. Blessings, Mr. Melton

to much work 4me brah

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

:( Everyone seems to think that. Lol. Thanks anyway.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problamo

On your seventh step you can give an example of what you don't want your lights to end up looking like for the comparison part of the rubric. Ex. "Make sure you put the right amount of lights up. You don't want your Christmas tree to look like it will burst into flames at any second, but you also want it to shine brighter than a tiny night light"

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Oh.. I see what you're saying... I will try that. Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Do you know how to use a subhead??? O.o I am clueless about that

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Okay... I think I have it... Nvm.. Thanks so much! ^.^
