* I GIVE MEDALS!* HELP PLEASE! Can i please get help on this using the systems of elimination? here is the equation 6x – 4y = 54 –9x + 2y = –69

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply second equation with 2 and add both the equations which gives u x term and then substitute x in any of the equation to get y term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u try??

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

6x – 4y = 54 ---> times 3 ---> 18x – 12y = 162 –9x + 2y = –69 ---> times 2 ---> -18x+4y=-138 --------------- you are adding them

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

-8y=24 y=-3 you can do the x, I am sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you loose x now because it is 0 and so it is -8y=24?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@solomanZelman ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yes, and then not hard, \[-8y=24\]\[-8y\color{red} {\div (-8)}=24\color{red} {\div (-8)}\]\[y=3\]to solve for x you would have to plug it in. \[6x-4y=54~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\color{blue} {(1st~~~original~~~equation.)}\]\[6x-4(\color{red} {-3})=54\]\[6x+12=54\]\[6x+12\color{red} {-12}=54\color{red} {-12}\]\[6x=42\]\[6x\color{red} {\div 6}=42\color{red} {\div 6}\]\[x=7\]
