3(x-2)=-2(x-7) ?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

If this is an equation that you are trying to solve, first, you need to distribute the 3 on the left side, and distribute the -2 on the right side. Can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hell no

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You take the number outside the parentheses, and you multiply it by each number in parentheses. Here is an example. \(2(x - 4) = 2 \cdot x - 2 \cdot 4 = 2x - 8\) Look at the example above, and see if you can do it to the left side of your equation.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

3(x - 2) = -2(x - 7) -- to distribute and get rid of the parenthesis, you take the number before the parenthesis and multiply it with everything in the parenthesis. 3(x - 2) would be 3 * x - 3 * 2 = 3x - 6 -2(x - 7) would be -2 * x , -2 * -7....you do this one
