In equilateral triangle DEF, m

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what property of an equilateral triangle would help us solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk i think its 2 equations 2 unknowns though

OpenStudy (amistre64):

oh it is, but the equilateral triangle tells us about the angle measures. equal sides, equal angles: 180 total, 3 angles ... each angle is 180/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but idk how to solve it i know one equations is 2x-y=180 would the other be x+y=180?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x+y = 60 hmm, let x = 30+n let y = 30-n 30+n +30-n = 60 2x-y = 60 2(30+n) - (30-n) = 60 when we know n, we can know x and y

OpenStudy (amistre64):

n is unknown, something to solve for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the 2 equations i just need those to solve

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i already posted them ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x+y = 60 2x-y = 60 try to remember them this time lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i thought i posted that as well .... i must be getting a bout of alzheimers the equilateral triangle tells us about the angle measures. equal sides, equal angles: 180 total, 3 angles ... each angle is 180/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3 angles of a triangle always add up to 180 A + B + C = 180 an equilaterial triangle has 3 equal sides, 3 equal angles a + a + a = 180 3a = 180 a = 180/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yeah thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what did you get for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40 i know how to get it for y nevermind

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i do have confidence in your abilities, even if you dont :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x + y = 60 ; but x = 40 40 + y = 60, so y = 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i got

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yay!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much
