someone please help me !!! i'll give you a medal! Kyra observed that 85% of the students at a library liked reading mystery stories. If 30 students at the library did not like reading mystery stories, the number of students at the library who liked mystery stories was _____. (only put numeric values, no other symbols)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are their answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope sorry, it needs a numerical answer :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dang, I narrowed it down between 180 and 210 but I can't figure it out exactly. I'm sorry...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats cool , i'll keep working on it!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, sorry I couldn't'tr be more of a help :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats okay

OpenStudy (raveninneverland):

Okay, I'll give you a couple tips. 30 is 15% of the kids. If you times both numbers by 5, you get: 150 people = 75%. Now, if you can't multiply your beginning numbers any higher than that. For instance, if you multiply 30 and 15 by 6, you get: 180 people = 90%. Now that's too high! But, you can multiply your numbers by something in between 5 and 6 to get it closer to the percent you need to be at (85%). Do you get where I'm coming from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorta yeah

OpenStudy (raveninneverland):

All you have to do is multiply it by a decimal number beginning with 5. Like, 5.1, and 5.2, and so on until you get to your approximate percentage.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok .... so thats all i need to do is find the percentage?

OpenStudy (raveninneverland):

Indeed! If I'm correct, that's all you need to do. Once you get close enough to the percentage of where you need to be, multiply the number you got with thirty. If you need any further help, contact me. I got your back, bro. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool sorry for putting sorta i ypped it twice lol

OpenStudy (raveninneverland):

It's all good, dude. Did you find the answer your looking for, and do you need anymore help?
