when you find critical values. do you plug them into the original equation or the derivative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Original equation to find the max/min.

thanks

zepdrix (zepdrix):

plug them in for what purpose? to find max/min you plug in "test points", values to the left and right of each critical point to determine increasing/decreasing. You plug them into the derivative function.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

If you already have determined increasing/decreasing, then plugging the critical point into the original function will give you the coordinate of your max/min. You need to be more specific in what you're trying to do :3

i mean... that guy understood it....

depends on what you're trying to accomplish
