¿Cuántos años tienes tú? ¿Tienes una familia grande o pequeña? ¿Cómo es tu familia? ¿Tienes hermanos? Si tienes hermanos, ¿cómo se llaman? ¿Cuántos años tiene tu mamá o tu papá? please help me i will give a medal and i don't really want you to give the awnsers to me i just want to understand what it's asking

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

literally, 1. How-many years have you? 2. How is your family? 3. You-have siblings? If you-have siblings, how themselves they-call? 4. How-many years have your mother or your father?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

meaning: 1. How old are you? 2. How's your family? 3. Do you have any brothers or sisters? If yes, what are their names? 4. How old is your mother or your father?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

brb(20mins)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. soy años 15 2. me familia es bien 3. me hermano nombre es Aramis 4. me mama es 38 anos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this anywhere near correct

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

well, in English we use the verb "to be" when describing age, while in Spanish we use the verb "to have"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

and we say "my name is..." in english, while in spanish we say "i call myself.."

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

different languages have different culture :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm still kind of clueless in how to put that in spanish can you give me an example

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

For example, in Spanish I'd say "I have 14 years" instead of "I am 14 years old", and "I call myself kc_kennylau" instead of "My name is kc_kennylau"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would that be said in spanish like the "i have" and "i call myself"?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

"I have" is "tengo", "I call myself" is "me llamo"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHH oh gosh i feel stupid for forgetting those. learned it in the beginning of the year

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

do you want the complete conjugation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes please

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

tener: (to have) yo tengo tú tienes él/ella/usted tiene nosotros tenemos vosotros tenéis (only used in Spain) ellos/ellas/ustedes tienen llamarse: (to call oneself) yo me llamo tú te llamas él/ella/usted se llama nosotros nos llamamos vosotros os llamáis (only used in Spain) ellos/ellas/ustedes se llaman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow i'm going to have to write this down thank you

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

¿Cuántos años tienes tú? tengo anos 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait tengo 15 anos or was the first one correct

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

tengo 15 annos (i use double n for tilde)

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

P.S. ano means anus and anno means year xp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lololol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

¿Tienes una familia grande o pequeña? me familia grande

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

familia is not a verb, don't put the object "me" in front of that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok but then what would i put

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

tengo una familia grande

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

and "my" in spanish is "mi"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have so much to learn

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

lolz don't give up fd :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

¿Cómo es tu familia? tengo familia bien

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

How is your family? I have a well family

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i won't i will not give up

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

that doesn't make any sense at all...

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

how would you answer that in english?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my family is doing well

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

do you remember how to answer "como estAs"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe so

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

ok let's translate that word by word

OpenStudy (anonymous):

muy bien or just bien

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

my->mi family->familia is->estA doing->haciendo well->bien

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

except that we don't use "to be doing well" in Spanish, we just say "to be well"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

so that makes "mi familia estA bien"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

#4 ¿Tienes hermanos? Si tienes hermanos, ¿cómo se llaman? tein hermano, se llamo Aramis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or was i suppose to put tengo i was having a small battle in my head about that

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep tengo

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

and not "se llamo"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

but "se llama"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

literally "he calls himself"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

or as in Spanish word-order, "he himself calls"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

or as Spanish omits the subject, just "himself calls"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops hehehe c: so it's suppose to be se llama

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

but that's not all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Now your answer would be: I have brother, he calls himself Aramis

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

do you think that's a bit weird?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bad grammar i would say i have a brother, and his name is aramis. (in english)

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

yep

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

so put an "a" between "i have" and "brother" :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so tengo a hermano, se llama Aramis

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

well what's "a" in spanish?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y is and right

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

ok the correct answer should be "tengo un hermano, se llama Aramis" or even: "tengo un hermano que se llama Aramis"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so "un" mean "a"

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

if the noun is masculine, yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and if its not masculin then it would be?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

una

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and i have one last question

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

¿Cuántos años tiene tu mamá o tu papá? mi mama es 38

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

again, use "tener XXX annos" instead of "ser XXX"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

¿Cuántos años tiene tu mamá o tu papá? tengo mama es 38 annos mi mama es 38 annos ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first one

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

mi mamA tiene 38 annos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*facepalm* i am really grateful for your help

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

lolz no problem :)

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

as a practice, how would you say "you are 14 years old" in Spanish?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tengo 14 annos?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

"you are" not "i am"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh would you use te

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

te means "you" as an object

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eres 14 annos

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

i said we use have

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

so it'd be "tienes 14 annos" (sorry gtg cya)

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Final note: I just use double n to facilitate conversation, DON'T ever use double n in exam

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

and i notice that ustedes cannot be displayed, so here is the missing coloumn: subject:ustedes D.O.:los/las I.O.:les Reflexive:se Poss.:su

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

sorry gtg cya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok bye
