what is the difference between theoretical and experimental probability?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

In general, probability is how likely something is to happen. Theoretical probability is when you do math to figure out the probability. Experimental probability is when you experiment to figure out the probability.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

For example: Flipping a coin once. A coin consist of 1 head, and 1 tail. so the theoretical probability of landing a head, is 50%. The theoretical probability of landing a tail is also 50%. To find the experimental probability, just find a coin, and flip it once. Though, experimental probability usually have to repeat the process. I hope this help!: )

Good example, but experimental probability would be done better with lots of coin flips.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Yep. That's what I was trying to say.
