What is Mitosis?
a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, typical of ordinary tissue growth.
Mitosis is asexual reproduction that produces two identical cells that are exactly likei ts parent. It produces two diploid cells that go through four stages that can be remembered as PMAT Prophase Metaphase Anaphse Telephase
the asexual type of cell division which results in formation of 2 daughter cells from a single parent cell is termed as mitosis. the resultant cells are identical genetically and morphologically to each other as well as to the parent cell. it has phases as follows: 1. interphase where cell prepares itself for the process of cell division 2. prophase in this phase the DNA duplicates, nuclear membrane stars to disappear and the centriole starts to divide and move to opposite poles of the cell 3. anaphase by this phase of cell..the cellular organells are peripheralized and duplicated and spindle fibers start to form 4. metaphase in this phase the chromosomes align themselves to the centre of the dividing cell in a condensed form via attachment to spindle fibres. they are now ready to get separated. 5.telophase in this phase of mitosis, the chromosomes have now equally separated to respective cell poles, spindle fibres now start degenrating from the middle and each centriole is passed onto respective poles. There is appearance of either a central fissure or a cell plate in the middle of the cell. this devides the parent cell into 2 daughter cells. the cells now separate with their respective copies of organelles and DNA. the DNA returns to relaxed state..i.e chromatin structure and the nucleus is again well defined. thus resulting in 2 daughter cells from a single parent cell.
