Need help on factoring trinomials:(
\[16a^2-8a+1\]
@johnweldon1993 @Luigi0210 @cwrw238
Well, judging by that 1 at the end, and that minus in the middle, we know it will be something like (a-1)(b-1) Now the trick is finding a and b, which, might be the same thing, so any guesses? ლ(■_■ლ)
To solve that, first multiply 1 by 16: a^2-8a+16 Now we need to find two numbers that multiply to 16, but add to -8. They are -4, and -4 so: (a+4)(a+4) Next we divide by 16 (4a+1)(4a+1) or (4a+1)^2
Zeinas, check again :3
That'll give us: \[\LARGE 16a^2+8x+1\]
*8a Ugh, I keep confusing variables.
Again. lol @Luigi0210
@zeinas. your answer is not correct...
it's \[\LARGE (4a-1)^2\] :3
Lol stupid negative sign. @Luigi0210 is right. It should be (4a-1)^2
Yea, it is... @Luigi0210 how did u get it??
I've done so much factoring that's just second nature to me.. finding an explanation is the hardest part xD
But what I did was just look at the end, the +1. Which led to two possibilities, it could either have +1's or -1's. The -8a confirmed that it was -1's, because if you add the +1's, then it will give you a positive number, right? So last I just thought about what number multiplies to 16 and add's to 8, which was 4.
k thxs
Yup!
