Based on the cartoon, which conclusion can be made about the United States after the Spanish-American War? The United States had abandoned its policies of imperialism and expansionism. The United States had less territory following the war than it had in the late 1700s. The United States had increased its influence in the world through territorial acquisitions. The United States was ill equipped to defend its newfound territories in the Pacific.

Which of the following was a U.S. response to the publication of Alfred Thayer Mahan’s book, The Influence of Sea Power Upon History? annexation of the Hawaiian Islands expansion of the United States navy construction of the Panama Canal announcement of the Open Door Policy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the world was covered mostly by water, only a strong navy would enable a nation to "project" it's military might (armies) across the globe. If a nation didn't have a strong navy, they could not compete in the world's Arms Race; they could not be a major player, just part of the audience sitting on the side lines. What good is a strong army, if it can't reach an enemy to conquer (because of an ocean)? Mahan influenced the Kaiser & the Tsar of Russia to build up their navies. Britain already thought along Mahan's lines. The Kaiser slyly eliminated his cousin Nick of Russia, by getting him into a fight with Japan in 1904...which effectively caused the loss of 2 of Russia's 3 battleship fleets; thus removing him from the (naval arms) Race.

What factor contributed the most to the Depression of 1920–21? speculation demobilization foreign imports tariff reductions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Either B or C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@undeadknight26 Whats your Steam name? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Depression of 1920–21 was an extremely sharp deflationary recession in the United States, shortly after the end of World War I. It lasted from January 1920 to July 1921.[1] The extent of the deflation was not only large, but large relative to the accompanying decline in real product.[2] A range of factors have been identified contributing to the depression, many relating to adjustments in the economy following the end of World War I. There was a brief Post-World War I recession immediately following the end of the war which lasted for 7 months. The economy started to grow, though it had not yet completed all the adjustments in shifting from a wartime to a peacetime economy. Factors identified as potentially contributing to the downturn include: returning troops which created a surge in the civilian labor force, a decline in labor union strife, changes in fiscal and monetary policy, and changes in price expectations. Following the end of the Depression of 1920–21, the Roaring Twenties brought a period of economic prosperity.

One effect would be that when the men returned from war, they expected to have their jobs back. However, the women that had taken over their jobs when the men were gone were reluctant to give them back. This caused many sexist out lashings, and a higher women unemployment rate.
