how to implicit differentiate: x^(2/3)+y^(2/3)=5

OpenStudy (aonz):

You know the chain rule right? Just apply that here... Differentiate x normally and differentiate y but add dy/dx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Differentiate each term using the Power Rule. For the term with y you will also use the chain rule which will result in dy/dx being added to the end of the power rule result. Then solve for dy.

OpenStudy (aonz):

Then rearrange and make dy/dx the subject. Im assuming you are doing this with repsect to x

okay! thank you! :)
