why 667/1000 becomes 2/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u mean, 666.6666666666666666666666666666/1000?

yes

any time you divide a number by 10 or 100 or 1000, what you are really saying is move the decimal of the top number to the left the number of times zero shows up in the denominator so, if we have 666.666/1000 we have three zeros, so we move the decimal of the number 666.6666 three to the left and we get. 0.6666666, if you plug in 2/3 into a calculator, you would get 0.6666667. the 7 at the end is just due to rounding
