HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Solve the following system of equations graphically. Click on the graph until the correct solution of the system appears. y = -3 x - y = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u graph this: y = -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you graph y=-3, do you know how to graph this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not really. graphs are my week point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

weak**

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its the first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so here is our coordinate system: |dw:1387394103077:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

https://www.desmos.com/calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when y=-3, we will draw a horizontal line that goes the the point -3 on the y axis. so we first locate -3 on the y axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1387394161439:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once located, we draw a horizontal line through it.|dw:1387394186255:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the graph of, y=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make sense so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@miamilove14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DemolisionWolf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so next we have to graph: x - y = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the easiest way to graph this is (oh, we arnt' done yet ^_^)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the easiest way to graph this, x - y = 8, is to get two points. first, let x=0, then solve for y then let y=0 and solve for x, can you do this step for me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmmm......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll do the first one: "let x=0 and solve for y" so... x - y = 8 0 - y = 8 there is only 1 number that y can be, 0-(-8) = 8 so y=-8 then we have the ordered pair (or the point) (0, -8) make sense? u try the next step let y=0 and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would x be 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - y = 8 x - 0 = 8 8 - 0 = 8 yep ^_^ good work, so we now have the second ordered pair (or point) to graph so, lets plot (0, -8) and (8, 0) on to our graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1387394974070:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1387395008240:dw| make sense so far?
