Which of the following equations represents a quadratic function? http://i.imgur.com/jsRyQ4u.png

OpenStudy (mertsj):

quadratic functions have the form: f(x)=ax^2+bx+c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a quadratic functions means that the largest power of any term is 2. so, which equation has a term that has a power of 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Does that look like ax^2+bx+c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b, c, and d all have the power of 2, so that handles the 'quadratic' part of the question, the next part is to have it in the form of a quadratic. which of b, c, and d have fthe from like Mertsj gave?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:SSS

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What does :SSS mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we know that b, c or d are going to be the answer. we can rule out c becuase it has y^2, not x^2. so is b or d in the form of y=Ax^2 +Bx + C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so it would be b? i'm confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mmmm.... maybe I can help if i undertand why you are choosing B over C and D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it has power of 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what's the answer? b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it having a power of 2 means that the function is quadratic, BUUUT we need the solution to also be in the correct form. with all the terms on one side and Y on the other. and to have the terms ranked from largest power to least power. like this: Y = x^2 + x + #

@wolf1728 I gotta log off, will you follow the rest of this for me ^_^

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I'd say 'D'

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Shantel, are you still here? I don't think 'B' could be the answer because the second term is 5*sq root of (x) and I don't think a quadratic equation can have a term that is a half power.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so d?
