OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i find a asymptote out of an equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What kind of asymptote? vertical, horizontal or slant?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um not shure im hospital homebound and i dont understand what im exactly looking at

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have an equation your given to find one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have many equations and i have to find asymptote, where it turns@, dom, ran, end behavior, and some things i dont understand whch are as x-> - infinite, y-> , as x-> infinte, y->

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm still can't help unless I have more specific equations, give me an example of your first one

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You need to post your first equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y= -2 times (2/3)x + 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y = -2(\frac{ 2 }{ 3 })x +5\] ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As far as I can tell, there is no asymptote, there can only be one it it is a rational equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it is*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well im stumped and have no idea what to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure you have the equation written right? There isn't a numerator or denominator?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The way you have posted your equation makes it equivalent to \[y=\frac{-4}{3}x +5\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If that it is the case, the graph is a line and there is no asymptote. I'm thinking you have posted the equation incorrectly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y equals negative 2 time ( two thirds ) x plus five

OpenStudy (mertsj):

But -2 times two thirds is - four thirds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont even know what a asymptote is so ...

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If you have an equation such as y = 1/x, it is clear that x cannot be 0 so x = 0 is an asymptote which is a line the graph gets closer and closer to but never intersects.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

In that graph, x=3 is an asymptote.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know what to say ... i mean my teacher gave it to me so ... i dont know what to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i cant exactly go to school because i'm home schooled basiclly

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Look in your book and study it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont have a book

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i got from the teacher was paper work

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Post a picture of your paper work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold one min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are the first three

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh the x's are exponents!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Well that's a whole different story. Now you can help him, right hilbertboy96?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hilbertboy96 @mertsj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ehhhh havent learned about asymptotes andl imits for exponentials yet so sorry :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mertsj
